On Saturday, March 12th my best friend proposed over brunch in Soho. Brunch just happens to be one of our favorite activities to do together so you could say he did good! Mike gets extra bonus points for arranging for Charlie, our 4 month old pup at the time, to be there during this special moment!
The truth is, our NYC proposal over brunch in Soho was actually Mike’s plan B. His plan A involved popping the question at one of our spots in Central Park. But, the weather had other plans. When we woke up on the morning of, it was hailing outside, so plan B it was!
I have to admit I was a little suspicious because Mike was acting very weird all morning. He kept going downstairs to “get a package” and overall looked a little stressed. He insisted that we didn’t cancel our brunch reservation even though the thought of going downtown while it was hailing outside didn’t sound too appealing to me. I’m pretty sure his exact words were “we have to go or they’re going to charge me, oh and dress cute!”
Once we arrived at Lafayette in Soho, they showed us to this cute little glass house that we had all to ourselves. It kind of felt like a little winter wonderland with the hail/snow falling down outside. We ordered our drinks and they brought out some pastries. Then, while I was in the middle of eating a croissant, Mike starts to give me “the speech.” I immediately tried to scarf down what was left of my croissant, franticly reaching for my mimosa to make sure I didn’t have anything stuck in my teeth.
Then, the waterworks came. Mike walked around the table, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. I said YES! But actually I didn’t because I fully blacked out. I meant to say yes but apparently only did so in my head because I was so overwhelmed with emotions and tears. We hugged and kissed and probably woke up Charlie, who was resting on my lap the whole time. The people dining nearby started clapped and someone who worked at the restaurant snapped a photo of us right after!
As if I thought it couldn’t get any better, Mike outdid himself by secretly coordinating for our family and closet friends to be waiting back at our apartment. It was the best surprise ever. I was so shocked and happy that after I hugged my family I had to excuse myself to pull it all together in the other room. We ate, we celebrated, and clinked glasses to the future! It was truly the best weekend ever and I’m still in awe of all the effort and careful planning Mike put into making it such a memorable weekend.
We’re still feeling super excited as we move through our engagement journey! As someone who started her career in the wedding industry and now works with incredible women-owned businesses in the wedding world, I have to admit I’m very much enjoying experiencing this special chapter of my own. Wedding planning has been really fun so far and we can’t wait to celebrate our wedding next Fall!
